Fermat Capital Bolsters Asia-Pacific Presence with Key Hires and New Japan Office

Fermat Capital Management, a prominent investment firm focused on catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities (ILS), is significantly enhancing its investor outreach in the Asia-Pacific area. This strategic push involves the recent recruitment of Nicholas Tan in Singapore, who takes on the role of Director of Investor Relations for the region, and the opening of a new office in Japan at the start of the current year. These initiatives underscore Fermat's dedication to forging stronger connections with the institutional investment community and tapping into the vibrant opportunities present in these markets.

The appointment of Nicholas Tan represents the latest addition to Fermat's growing investor relations team. Tan brings extensive experience from his previous roles in business development at various asset management firms, including Aberdeen, GAM Investments, Capital Group, and Niko Asset Management. His career began in Singapore with the Dawe Holdings family office in 2012. In his new capacity, Tan will collaborate closely with Greg Hickling, also a Director of Investor Relations for APAC, based in Australia, to serve Fermat’s clientele throughout the region. Furthermore, Fermat Capital (Japan) K.K. was established earlier this year to provide a dedicated hub for promoting Fermat's ILS fund strategies to Japanese investors and offering localized client support. Takakiyo Iwamoto leads the Japan operations as Director of Investor Relations and Co-Representative Director, having joined in January 2026. He is supported by Sachie Kobayashi, a Senior Investor Relations Associate, who brings valuable expertise in performance reporting and client communications from her previous role at GAM Investments.

These developments, coupled with the recent introduction of a specialized catastrophe bond fund for New Zealand investors, emphasize the critical importance of the Asia-Pacific region and its investor base to Fermat’s overall growth strategy. They also reflect the firm’s ambitious plans within these rapidly evolving markets, especially as Fermat Capital Management recently announced exceeding billion in ILS assets under management in July 2026.

Fermat Capital Management's proactive expansion in the Asia-Pacific region demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to investment management. By strategically placing key personnel and establishing regional offices, the firm is not only strengthening its market presence but also fostering deeper relationships with a diverse range of investors. This commitment to growth and client engagement in dynamic markets like Japan and Singapore positions Fermat for continued success and underscores the increasing global relevance of insurance-linked securities as a sophisticated investment vehicle.
